Foundations of Linguistics

This course covers the theoretical foundations of
  • syntax and morphology: structure of words, phrase structure, syntactic dependencies, word order and syntactic relations
  • semantics: foundations of Montague semantics, compositionality, scope
  • pragmatics: conventional and conversational implicature, Gricean maxims
  • phonetics and phonology: speech sounds, phonological representations and constraints
  • psycholinguistics: theories of word and sentence processing, dialogue and discourse processing, language acquisition
