Kornai. That time, I created a unix account with NYU computer services, unzipped the file and used basic grep/egrep searches to get the counts. The problem is that this file does not have any 'readme' file, hence there is no explanation for the coding scheme. A. Kornai told me that they used the same coding as was used in a reversed-dictionary of Hungarian published sometimes in the 70s or 80. I was able to find it in Columbia library and it had rather cryptic explanation of coding in English but I don't rememeber the tile now. I rememeber something from the coding, and I probably still have some notes somewhere but I am not sure where now. I can look for them. In the meanwhile, I will forward to you the messages that Andras sent me when I asked him for the database. Maybe, the database is now fully described somewhere in English, I think it would make sense to contact Andras or other two members of the team to ask about the current status of it (in fact, I would be interested as well!) I would be very interested in the grant ideas that you mention. Both the option to come to Haskins for 1-2 weeks as a consultant on already existing grant, and also a potential cooperation on new grants. My teaching load is heavy but my boss likes any foreign research activity so I think there would not be a problem for me to invest time here and/or come to US for a short time. Thanks, Stefan
