How to get Minion Pro to work in math mode on a Mac

The how-to follows this guide for the most part. However, some adjustments had to be made to get it to work on a Mac with the latest MacTeX installed. If you already tried that guide but were unsuccesful, delete the folder ~/Library/.texlive2009.

Go here and download Open a Terminal and type mkdir ~/Downloads/minionpro und cd ~/Downloads/minionpro

Type the following commands:

cd mnsymbol/tex
latex MnSymbol.ins
mkdir -p ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/MnSymbol/
mkdir -p ~/Library/texmf/fonts/source/public/MnSymbol/
mkdir -p ~/Library/texmf/doc/latex/MnSymbol/
cp MnSymbol.sty ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/MnSymbol/MnSymbol.sty
cd ..
cp source/* ~/Library/texmf/fonts/source/public/MnSymbol/
cp MnSymbol.pdf README ~/Library/texmf/doc/latex/MnSymbol/
mkdir -p ~/Library/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/MnSymbol
mkdir -p ~/Library/texmf/fonts/enc/dvips/MnSymbol
mkdir -p ~/Library/texmf/fonts/type1/public/MnSymbol
mkdir -p ~/Library/texmf/fonts/tfm/public/MnSymbol
cp enc/ ~/Library/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/MnSymbol/
cp enc/*.enc ~/Library/texmf/fonts/enc/dvips/MnSymbol/
cp pfb/*.pfb ~/Library/texmf/fonts/type1/public/MnSymbol/
cp tfm/* ~/Library/texmf/fonts/tfm/public/MnSymbol/
sudo mktexlsr
sudo updmap-sys --enable MixedMap

mnsymbol-test.tex should compile without problems.

Minion Pro

Download everything from here to ~/Downloads/minionpro and type the following:

mkdir minionpro-scripts
cd minionpro-scripts
unzip ../

Now copy the OTF files into the local directory. Depending on where you keep the files, type cd otf and find ~/Library/Fonts/ -iname '*minion*pro*otf' -exec cp -v '{}' otf/ ';'. You will need a working installation of lcdf-typetools to convert the fonts. I found the quickest and easiest way was to compile it from source, but you can of course try Fink. When you are done, type:

mkdir -p ~/Library/texmf/fonts/type1/adobe/MinionPro/
cp pfb/*.pfb ~/Library/texmf/fonts/type1/adobe/MinionPro/

Determine your version of Minion Pro with:

otfinfo -v ~/Downloads/minionpro/scripts/otf/MinionPro-Regular.otf
An output like Version 2.015;PS 002.000;Core 1.0.38;makeotf.lib1.7.9032 points to Now type:cd ~/Library/texmf
unzip ~/Downloads/MinionPro/
unzip ~/Downloads/MinionPro/
unzip ~/Downloads/MinionPro/
sudo mktexlsr
sudo updmap-sys --enable

Depending on your version and the number of weights, you are installing, you will have to use another enc-file and possibly also In any case, minionpro-test.tex should no longer pose a problem for xelatex. If you have problems with the installation, you can write me an email.
