Informationen zum Computerlinguistik-Studium in Potsdam.

Meine Kolumne im Culturmag: Siri-ously? Neues aus der Computerlinguistik.

Welcome to my homepage. I am a professor of theoretical computational linguistics, which means that I am interested in anything having to do with the mathematical and algorithmic foundations of natural language processing. Before coming to Potsdam, I spent a lot of time at Saarland University, most recently as a research group head in the Cluster of Excellence "Multimodal Computing and Interaction. In between, I was also a postdoc at Columbia University and the University of Edinburgh.

My research interests are broad. They encompass coming up with clean mathematical models for natural language phenomena and efficient algorithms for solving useful problems in natural language processing. In particular, I have done quite a bit of research on computational semantics, grammar formalisms, and natural language generation (NLG). Recently, I have been especially interested in interactive situated NLG, which I am exploring in the context of the GIVE Challenge.

On this website, you can find my publications, some of my recent talks (to the extent that I've had time to put them online), and some software that I've been involved in. You will also find links to my current and past courses. Of my past teaching, I'm particularly proud of the talking robots projects I supervised together with Geert-Jan Kruijff (see a video).
