  • Schlangen, D., [2005] ``Modelling Dialogue in SDRT''; invited presentation at the international ``Status Colloquium on Dialogue Theories'', University of Bielefeld, November 17th-18th 2005.
[ Mostly a review of the theory SDRT (as presented in (Asher & Lascarides 2003)), with some of my own work within this theory (Schlangen 2003; Schlangen 2005) tacked on at the end. But maybe useful to get an idea of SDRT and dialogue. ]
    slides
  • Schlangen, D., [2005] ``Temporal Constraints in Discourse -- The Discourse Contribution of Silence''; invited presentation at the international workshop ``Constraints in Discourse'', University of Dortmund, June 3rd-5th 2005.
[ ``Discourse contribution of silence''?? Yup. A first (for me) stab at taking seriously the idea of modelling dialogue with all its facets, including non-linguistic ones. I'm mostly addressing the easiest target here, namely significant silences; as is one small step in a larger enterprise, which is to connect models of interaction management and models of non-linguistic actions with models of dialogue structure without creating an unmanageable behemoth. ]
    slides
  • Schlangen, D., [2005] ``A Computational Model of Turn-Taking and Grounding'', presented to the Konversationsanalytisches Kolloquium (CA colloquium) at the University of Potsdam; May 4th 2005
[ What is needed to turn well-known models of turn-taking and grounding into computational models? More a sketch of a research program than actual research.. ]

[ Mostly my SIGDial'04 stuff, but some new thoughts about the semantics/pragmatics interface, and what CRs tell us about it. ]
    slides
  • The following presentations were given during a visit to the Tanaka/Tokunaga-Lab at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in the fall of 2004. Note that despite having the same title, these are actually (slightly) different talks.
    • Schlangen, D., [2004] Modelling and Managing Dialogue: Approaches and Challenges, presented to the Spoken Language group (headed by Syun Tutiya) at Chiba University, October 4th 2004, and finally to my hosts in Japan, the NLP group at Tokyo Institute of Technology (headed by Prof. Tanaka and Tokunaga), October 6th 2004.
[ Of course, the talks differed slightly. But only so slightly that it would be silly put both sets of slides up. Again focusses on SDRT and RUDI. ]
      slides
    • Schlangen, D., [2004] Modelling and Managing Dialogue: Approaches and Challenges, presented to the Natural Language Processing Group at Tokyo University, Tokyo, September 29th 2004.
[ This is yet another completely different talk, focussing on SDRT and RUDI. Clever idea to give them all the same name, eh? ]
      slides
    • Schlangen, D., [2004] Modelling and Managing Dialogue: Approaches and Challenges, presented to the Natural Language Processing Group at NHK corp. Japan (Japan Broadcasting Corportation), Tokyo, September 27th 2004.
[ This is more of an introductory talk.. So this time the title actually fits.. ]
      slides
    • Schlangen, D., [2004] Modelling and Managing Dialogue: Approaches and Challenges, presented at Kyoto University, Kyoto, September 24th 2004.
[ I threw out the bit about PotBot (Stede and Schlangen 2004), but apart from that it's very similar to the Nara talk. ]
      slides
    • Schlangen, D., [2004] Modelling and Managing Dialogue: Approaches and Challenges, presented at ATR (Advanced Telecommunications Research Centre), Nara, September 22nd 2004.
[ The ancestor of them all. Ambitious program: say something about challenges (dialogue phenomena) and approaches, in particular about the stuff I've been working on. Does not fit into 60 minutes, unfortunately, so apologies, ATR guys... ]
      slides
  • Schlangen, D., [2003] RUDI: Eine Implementation der Diskurssemantiktheorie SDRT, presented to the Semantic Circle of the Zentrum für allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft, Typologie und Universalienforschung, Berlin (associated to Humboldt University Berlin)
